Optical Conductivity and Pseudo-Momentum Conservation in Anisotropic Fermi Liquids

چکیده
Umklapp scattering determines the conductivity of clean metals. In typical quasi one-dimensional Fermi liquids with an open Fermi surface, certain pseudo-momenta do not decay by 2-particle collisions even in situations where Umklapp scattering relaxes the momentum of the quasi particles efficiently. Due to this approximate conservation of pseudo-momentum, a certain fraction of the electrical current decays very slowly and a wellpronounced low-frequency peak emerges in the optical conductivity. We develop simple criteria to determine under what conditions approximate pseudomomentum conservation is relevant and calculate within in Fermi liquid theory the weights of the corresponding low-frequency peaks and the temperature dependence of the various relevant decay rates. Based on these considerations, we obtain a qualitative picture of the frequency and temperature dependence of the optical conductivity of an anisotropic Fermi liquid.

Optical Conductivity of Clean Metals
We briefly review some basic aspects of transport in clean metals focusing on the role of electron-electron interactions and neglecting the effects of impurities, phonons and interband transitions. Both for small Fermi surfaces of two and three-dimensional metals and open Fermi surfaces of quasi one-dimensional metals the dc conductivity σ is largely dominated by momentum and pseudo-momentum co...
متن کاملTransport in Quasi One-Dimensional Systems
The interplay of Umklapp scattering from a periodic potential and other scattering processes determine the conductivity of (quasi) one-dimensional metals. We show that the transport at finite temperature is qualitatively and quantitatively strongly influenced by a number of approximate conservation laws. Typically, not the strongest but the second strongest scattering mechanism determines the d...

Based on the Keldysh formalism, we derive an effective Boltzmann equation for a quasiparticle constrained within a particular Fermi surface in an interacting Fermi liquid. This provides a many-body derivation of Berry curvatures in electron dynamics with spin-orbit coupling, which has received much attention in recent years in noninteracting models. As is well known, the Berry curvature in mome...

The fermion sign problem is studied in the path integral formalism. The standard picture of Fermi liquids is first critically analyzed, pointing out some of its rather peculiar properties. The insightful work of Ceperley in constructing fermionic path integrals in terms of constrained world-lines is then reviewed. In this representation, the minus signs associated with Fermi-Dirac statistics a...
متن کاملInvestigating the Longitudinal Optical Conductivity in Three-Layer Graphene Systems with Composes Mono-Bi-Bi and Bi-Mono-Bi and Bi-Bi-Mono
The longitudinal optical conductivity is the most important property for graphene-baseddevices. So investigating this property for spatially separated few-layer graphene systems analytically and numerically is the main purpose of our study. Each layer can be mono- or bi-layer graphene. The density-density correlation function has been screened by the dielectric function using the random p...
